This is an update to my winter complaints below. It was the touch screens that were missing our touch. We eventually learned to just tap our credit card instead to start the process. And we push hard on the “receipt?” prompt at the end. The other problems stopped occurring. If you aren’t using a credit card, try moisturizing or licking your finger before touching. These Shell pumps are so much nicer than the Mobile ones they switched from. Those had really dim displays from the day they were installed, and then we had to answer 5 or 6 prompts before fueling. With our Shell-linked AmEx card, there’s just the “receipt?” prompt.

Recently switched from Mobil to Shell... seemed like they had some issues for a few weeks when they first switched but everything seems to be working now. Friendly employees. Always clean bathroom. And they finally have new outside lights!

They recently switched from Mobile to Shell pumps. Our first attempt was very frustrating despite being Shell rewards customers. My wife’s car was on one side of the pump and mine on the other. The screens just had a small yellow Welcome circle at the top. (We didn’t notice until much later that some other pumps had ads displaying.) Pressing the screen and keypad repeated failed to get a response. After a minute or so each finally displayed buttons for Credit, Rewards, and maybe Cash. (Tip: Use the Credit button if your non-Shell credit card is registered for Fuel Rewards discounts.) Other problems occurred including a strange “Pump is not dispensing. Please try again” message that offered no way to try again. Waiting 30 seconds or so seemed to be all that it was looking for. After we finally got them pumping, I described the problems to the cashier but got no indication that she took me seriously. Another cashier overheard and suggested that the pumps misbehave when it gets cold. It w
